Carrying On Family Tradition, Passion Into The Future

It’s not every day that the legacy of a family restaurant is carried on in this tradition,” said Paul Flengeris, owner of The Lakeshore, but that’s exactly what makes The Lakeshore Restaurant so special. Since its beginnings in June of 1975, when four brothers from Greece decided to embark upon an exciting new enterprise, The Lakeshore has been family owned and operated, something which lends it the distinct and noteworthy charm that has set it apart from competition for decades. Peter Flengeris, the eldest brother, tragically passed away in 1979 in a car accident, but his brothers Albert, Arthur and Nick Flengeris stuck together and battled through adversity to keep the dream alive. Today, The Lakeshore Restaurant still stands proudly on the edge of Wascana Park, a symbol of their resilience as well as their passion, which has come to be a defining family tradition.

Paul, the son of Peter Flengeris, has spent his entire life in Regina. Raised with his 3 siblings by their mother, Adeline Flengeris, after the sudden loss of their father at a young age, Paul learned the tricks of the trade from his uncles. Since his early days as a busboy and waiter at Memories Fine Dining, to operating a Western Pizza Franchise and neighbourhood Pub in Uplands, Paul’s entire career has been devoted to the industry. When asked what he loves most about his new role as owner of The Lakeshore Restaurant, Paul explained that, more than anything, he is excited to have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the family members who created a beautiful restaurant with an exceptional dining experience.

The history of The Lakeshore Restaurant makes it a truly one-of-a-kind dining experience. Located just around the corner from The Conexus Arts Centre, “Lakeshore’s comfortable setting, hospitable management and staff, but above all, exceptional cuisine make it one of Regina’s longest surviving restaurants,” Flengeris said. For over 50 years we have been carefully preparing the signature menu for loyal patrons. When asked what makes The Lakeshore so unique, Paul was quick to note the longstanding tradition that has come to define the restaurant and keeps their customers coming back. “We’ve had clients coming there regularly for decades. We’ve had staff work there for decades. The Lakeshore has been such a constant for people. They can count on it: that the food will always be perfect and that their regular server is there for them,” Flengeris said. In fact, the service is so exceptional that many of the clientele were worried the restaurant would be closing when word of the new ownership began to spread. Quick to reassure worried patrons that nothing will change. “People have expressed that they feel so at home there, they can’t imagine going anywhere else.
